About This Game
Disco Elysium is unlike anything else in gaming. You wake up in a trashed hostel room with no memory, a catastrophic hangover, and a murder to solve in the decaying coastal district of Martinaise. There is no combat system — instead, 24 internalized skills, from Electrochemistry to Inland Empire, serve as voices in your head, arguing, tempting, and guiding you through every conversation and decision. It is an RPG built entirely on dialogue, thought, and consequence.
The writing is extraordinary. Political ideologies — communism, fascism, ultraliberalism, moralism — are explored with biting wit, genuine empathy, and zero easy answers. Your character can become a sorry-cop, a hobocop, a superstar detective, or an apocalyptic prophet, and the world reacts accordingly. The Thought Cabinet system lets you internalize ideas that permanently alter stats and unlock new dialogue, making every playthrough meaningfully different.
The Final Cut update added full voice acting for every line of dialogue — over a million words — and four new political vision quests. With its watercolor art style, hauntingly beautiful soundtrack by Sea Power, and prose that rivals literary fiction, Disco Elysium is a triumph of interactive storytelling. If you have ever wished games would grow up, this is the answer.
